On the morning of 24 February 2022, we watched in horror as Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine with strikes from land, air and sea. Our immediate thoughts turned to the innocent people caught in the crossfire, including our colleagues in the research community. Ukrainian scientists saw their universities and research centers being destroyed or shut down, their dreams and aspirations shattered in the blink of an eye.

In the face of such adversity, many scholars volunteered to fight on the front lines driven by a sense of duty to protect their homeland, while others sought opportunities to continue their research in Ukraine and support their families. Our initiative was born out of a deep desire to support the scientists remaining in Ukraine. We recognized the critical need for resources and training, and we knew that we could help fill that need. Through our program, we offer remote opportunities and training in state-of-the-art skills such as coding, biostatistics, data analytics, analysis of next generation sequencing data,  and scientific writing.

It is our hope that our initiative will serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration to scientists and researchers in Ukraine and around the world.
