Members of the Bioinformatics For Ukraine initiative attended the East European Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics School (EEBG) in Chișinău, Moldova. The two-week event, held with the aim of providing comprehensive training and fostering collaboration in the fields of bioinformatics and computational genomics, provided an invaluable opportunity for our members to delve deeper into the latest advances in bioinformatics and connect foster with like-minded peers from different countries.
One of the highlights of the Summer School was the series of keynote lectures delivered by 13 distinguished speakers from top universities in the USA, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Turkey, Poland and Romania, covering a wide range of topics from benchmarking computational biology to best practices in scientific writing for a broad audience. Our group was particularly captivated by the insightful talk by Prof. Taras Oleksyk. His pioneering work on genome diversity in Ukraine resonated deeply with our young Ukrainian researchers, inspiring them to contribute to the advancement of bioinformatics in our home country.
The Summer School’s emphasis on collaborative group projects provided a unique opportunity for participants to work closely with their peers and instructors. Over the course of two weeks, the immersive experience allowed participants to explore new topics within the field and gain practical insights, culminating in the presentation of group projects at the prestigious Mediacor facility and the subsequent awards ceremony that recognized the hard work and dedication of all participants.
As our members returned to Ukraine, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and a wealth of knowledge that will contribute to the development of bioinformatics. The connections forged during EEBG will serve as a catalyst for future collaborations, strengthening the ties between the Bioinformatics For Ukraine initiative and the broader international research community.
The Bioinformatics For Ukraine initiative extends heartfelt appreciation to the organizers of EEBG for orchestrating this exceptional event. The Summer School’s commitment to advancing bioinformatics and computational genomics in Eastern Europe aligns perfectly with our mission, and we look forward to continued engagement in such transformative academic endeavors.
