On Friday, October 24th, Nadiia Kasianchuk, a current Fellow of Bioinformatic for Ukraine Initiative, embarked on an exciting journey in Kyiv to foster collaboration between the ‘BioInUA’ initiative and Kyiv School of Economics. This partnership promises to bring forth new horizons in the fields of genetics, bioinformatics, and international scientific cooperation.
Nadiia’s visit to KSE marked a significant step forward in spreading awareness about the importance of genomics and its potential applications. She conducted an open lecture shedding light on genome sequencing and the remarkable Human Genome Project. With a passion for science and a commitment to making complex concepts accessible, Nadiia aimed to demystify the intricacies of genomics, ensuring that even non-specialized students could grasp the fundamental concepts. Her goal? To promote natural science and genomic literacy among a diverse audience.
In an exciting development, Nadiia revealed plans to lead a course titled ‘Human Genetic & Society’ during the spring semester of 2024. This course has been meticulously designed to cater to students pursuing a double bachelor’s degree in ‘Economics and Big Data’ at KSE and Houston University. It’s a role that Nadiia acknowledges comes with immense responsibility, yet she embraces it with enthusiasm. By offering this course, she hopes to ignite interest in genetics among students with various backgrounds. Moreover, students with a strong foundation in genetics may pave the way for bioinformatics development in Ukraine and become valuable contributors to the global scientific community.
This partnership between ‘BioInUA’ and KSE is not just about one course or one lecture. It signifies the potential for long-lasting cooperation, aiming to foster future collaborations, and expanding educational horizons. One exciting prospect is the organization of summer schools and educational projects that may lead to long-term programs or specialized study tracks. Though the journey is just beginning, the possibilities are boundless.
Highlighting the importance of international collaboration, this partnership is emblematic of the broader mission of ‘BioInUA.’ The initiative is no stranger to cooperation with scientists from the United States and Western Europe. These partnerships not only enrich the knowledge pool but also open doors for scientific progress in Ukraine. As global challenges become increasingly complex, international cooperation becomes paramount for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine’s scientific landscape.
